<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bottoming detection weighing scale and a method of controlling the weighing scale capable of detecting surely occurrence of bottoming. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A body weighing machine 100 is provided with a distance measuring sensor 30 at the central position C of a body 50. At first, a CPU 10 measures the body weight of a human subject. The CPU 10 then drives the distance measuring sensor 30 to measure a distance Dm between the body 50 and a floor surface and determines whether the distance Dm is zero or not. The CPU 10 displays on a display unit 15 a message indicating that an error has occurred when the distance Dm is zero, and displays the measured body weight on the display unit 15 when the distance Dm is not zero.
