The method involves extruding plastic (13) as a plastic web (12), and cooling and hardening the plastic using a cooling roller (16). Surface structures of a material layer made of plastic are transferred to the plastic web by a negative surface structure of a roller surface (22) of the cooling roller having structure crests (26) and structure valleys (24) during cooling and hardening of the plastic, where the negative surface structure corresponds to the surface structures of the material layer. The material layer is pressed against the roller surface by a pressing roller.
