1294208 Stud and socket fastenings TEXTRON Inc 23 Sept 1970 [22 Oct 1969] 45348/ 70 Heading E2B A stud and socket fastening is made of synthetic plastics material and comprises a stud 12, Fig. 4, a socket 18, Fig. 5, and two identical backing members 14 or 20 Fig. 3. The stud 12 is provided with a projection 60 which is engageable in an aperture 88 formed in the socket 18. Both the stud and the socket are each provided with four legs 72 or 84 having pointed ends 74 and 86 respectively. Each backing member 14 or 20 is provided with apertures 50 which receive the legs of either the stud or the socket and is provided with an annular recess 48 which receives some of the fabric should bunching occur when the stud or socket is being attached to the fabric. The apertures 50 are slightly smaller in diameter than the diameter of the legs 72 or 84 and are provided with a counterbore 56. The stud 18 is attached to a piece of fabric F, Fig. 6, by passing the legs therethrough and by forcing the latter through the apertures 50 until the pointed ends 74 become deformed into heads 92, the latter being retained in the counterbores 56 of the backing member 14. Similarly the socket 18 is attached to a piece of fabric F'. The stud, socket and backing members are produced in strip form as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, each lateral row of components comprising a complete fastening. |
