APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR COMPENSATING BRIGHTNESS OF BACK LIGHT

PURPOSE: A display device and a display method are provided to be applied to various backlights regardless of the arrangement and the number of LEDs by compensating for the brightness of each backlight in consideration of the modeled backlight brightness distribution. CONSTITUTION: An image analysis unit(41) extracts brightness information according to a block of a divided display region by analyzing an input image signal. A block control value operator(43) operates the backlight control value according to the backlight block corresponding to the block of the display region through the brightness block. A block control value compensator(45) outputs a backlight compensation control value by determining the scaling according to the brightness of each backlight block. A liquid crystal display panel is divided to a plurality of display regions and displays the image according to the input image signal. A backlight unit is divided into a plurality of backlight blocks and backlights the liquid crystal display panel. A backlight controller(50) controls the backlight unit of the backlight block by a backlight compensation control value.
