New 1-alkoxyalkyl- and 1-aryloxyalkyl-4,5-diphenylimidazoles and their acid addition salts of formula (I): (where n is an integer 1-6 and R is lower alkyl e.g., methyl and ethyl, or aryl e.g., phenyl), are prepd. by reacting 4,5-diphenylimidazole (DPI), which is synthesised by well known methods, with alkoxy alkyl halide or aryloxy alkyl halide. The obtained cpds. show excellent preventive and curing effect to allergic disease and have properties necessary for use in pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, such as oleophilic properties and solubility. |
