[Also in Division C6] A clarifying tun 1 for filtering brewer's mash has an inclined separating surface 1 and an inclined sparging surface 2 which retain the spent grains 3 between them. The surfaces may be inclined at mutually different angles to the horizontal and the spacing between them may 'be adjusted by a winch 22. Wort is drawn off through discharge pipes 25, 7, 8, 9 and 10. The discharge pipes may be angularly disposed around the tun and the auxiliary pipes 7 to 9 may be mounted perpendicularly to the generatrix of the separating surface. The level of sparging water in the reservoir 14 is maintained through a controller 16. Sieve floor 4 is swung down and slide 6 withdrawn to allow the spent grains to be discharged. |
