Modular electrical system and method for its operation

The system (1) has a current-emitting source module (2) comprising a source identification unit (2a) for identifying power capacity of the source module. A current-receiving reduction module (4) is connected to the source module, and has a reduction identification unit (4a) for identifying a maximum power requirement of the reduction module. The reduction identification unit and the source identification unit are connected to a two-wire line (6) for generating a differential voltage on the two-wire line. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a modular electrical system.
