<p>Esterification for production of high-boiling or non-volatile esters, particularly dioctyl phthalate, takes place by using phthalic, maleic or succinic anhydride, or in their presence, followed by distillation or removal of acid ester decomposition constituents. Pref. dioctyl-, dinonyl- and didecyl phthalate are prepared by reacting phthalic anhydride with the alcohol in slight excess at 170-220 degrees C, drawing off crude product and opt. re-using the alcohol and phthalic anhydride distillates. Pref. other esters include polyester glycols and alkyd. resins dioctyl adipate, azelate or -sebacate; adipic acid polyesters and monoesters or synthetic waxes.</p> |
