Nov 1969] 52679/70 Heading G2A A cassette comprises a base member 42 and a cover 44 connected together at a hinge 46, the base member having a centrally raised support surface 56 at each side of which are guide channels 56, 60; beyond the channels are support rails so shaped that they will locate a plate initially placed on the support surface 56, and also support that plate when the cassette is inverted. The cassette is intended for xerographic X-ray plates, in an automated processing system in which the plates are introduced into the cassette and withdrawn therefrom automatically. As shown, the channels at either side of the centrally raised surface 56 comprise two channels 58, 60, separated by a ridge 62. These ridges co-operate with side rails on the xerographic plate, so that the plate can be guided into position. Beyond the channels 58, 60 are L-shaped support rails 64, which guide the plate into position as it is automatically inserted into the cassette. After such insertion the cassette is usually inverted for entry into the printing unit. In such inverted position the plate is supported by the rails 64 without contacting the photo-conductive layer. The cover and base member have a tongue and groove construction so that they fit together to form a light-tight enclosure. Latch members (94), Fig.1 (not shown) are provided, with notches 92 in front of them through which fingers on cassette-opening means forming part of the automated mechanism can enter to actuate the latches. A membrane (127), Fig.5 (not shown) such as cloth or plastic film can be mounted on the cover so as to lie in parallel closely spaced relationship to the photo-conductive layer to prevent ionic degradation thereof during radiographic imaging. Holes may be provided for the escape of air trapped between the membrane and the cover. A filter (138) may be provided in the cover for modifying the radiation entering the cassette.
