The dyes have formula:- (in which A= -CH2-, -CH-(alkyl)-, -CO- or -SO2- group, Z=(un) saturated, optionally substd. C2-12 alkylene radical or a condensed, optionally hydrogenated, arylene radical of the benzene or naphthalene series, Y=adirect bond or divalent bridge member, R1 to R5, independently of one another, =H, halogen (Cl, Br, F), -NO2, -NH2-, -NH-alkyl, -NH-aryl, -NH-acyl, -O-alkyl, -O-aryl, -OH, -S-aryl, -SO2NH-alkyl, -SO2N (alkyl, -SO2NH-aryl, -SO2-alkyl, -SO2-aryl or -aryl; and R1, in addition, may=C1-4 alkyl group or carboxy group, the radicals X=HSO3 groups, p and p'=1, 2 or 3, m=0, 1 or 2 and n=0, 1 or 2, m + n = at least 1 and the alkyl, acyl and aryl may be (un) substd./. Preferred dyes are those in which R2=NH2, R4=OH, n=O, and R1 and R3=H. The dyes are prepared in 3 ways, one of which comprises: sulphonating anthraquinone dues of formulae:- by introducing then into 2-65% oleum and stirring at 0-150 degrees C, optionally with addition of boric acid or dry Na2SO4. |
