A temperature monitoring system (11) includes a device (13) for monitoring temperature over a period of time in view of one or more parameters, an adaptor (17) in communication with the temperature monitoring device (TMD) (13) and a data programming device (DPD) (15) in communication with the adaptor. The TMD (13) includes a temperature sensor (91), and a power source (93) for continuously supplying power to the CPU (85). The CPU (85) involves volatile memory into which measurements made by the temperature sensor (91) are stored, the volatile memory in the CPU (85) serving as the sole memory i n the TMD (13). The TMD (13) is free of means for suspending power from the power source to the CPU (85). In use, each successive measurement taken by t he temperature sensor (91) overwrites the previous measurement stored into the CPU volatile memory. In this manner, the TMD (13) stores no historical data throughout it monitoring process.
