PURPOSE: A mobile terminal and a method for managing an image thereof are provided to load images called while selecting a user or performing functions. CONSTITUTION: A booting operation of a portable terminal is started(315), and an information image is confirmed from a non-volatile memory. The confirmed information image is decoded(320), and the decoded information image is stored at a non-volatile memory. The booting operation is completed(330), and it is checked whether or not the function is selected through an input unit or menu(350) and whether or not the information image corresponding to the selected function exists in the non-volatile memory(360). The decoded information image is displayed on an indicator area of the display unit(380).
