PURPOSE: A microcomputer and a method for controlling thereof are provided to sense the system failure by detecting the normal operation per work unit. CONSTITUTION: A microcomputer(100) comprises a controller(10), a watchdog circuit(20) and a reset unit(30). According to the process schedule of the operating system, the controller successively processes the different work unit. The watchdog circuit compares the processing unit number with the target unit number. If the target unit number exceeds the processing unit number, the watchdog circuit consigns the controller reset command.
