Hydrochlorides and hydrates of 1-[(3-cyanopyridin-2-yl)methyl]-3-methyl-7-(2-butyn-1-yl)-8-(3-aminopiperidin-1-yl)xanthine, their preparation and their use as medicaments

The disclosure relates to salts of 1-[(3-cyanopyridin-2-yl)methyl]-3-methyl-7-(2-butyn-1-yl)-8-[3-aminopiperidin-1-yl]xanthine with hydrochloric acid, and also to their enantiomers, mixtures thereof and hydrates thereof. Particularly disclosed are monohydrochloride and dihydrochloride salts of 1-[(3-cyanopyridin-2-yl)methyl]-3-methyl-7-(2-butyn-1-yl)-8-[3-aminopiperidin-1-yl]xanthine in crystalline non-hydrate form. Pharmaceutical compositions of these salts are suitable for the treatment of a condition selected from type I and type II diabetes mellitus, arthritis, obesity, allograft transplantation and osteoporosis caused by calcitonin.
