VIDEO ENCODING/DECODING APPARATUS AND MEHOD USING DIRECTION OF PREDICTION

PURPOSE: A video encoding/decoding apparatus and a method using direction of prediction is provided to improve compression efficiency by reducing the block size of a signal according to the direction of prediction of an intra prediction mode. CONSTITUTION: An intra prediction unit(310) creates a predicted block by predicting a current block and an intra prediction part. A calculating part(320) produces residual block by calculating the predicted block in the current block. A down-sampling part(330) samples the residual block down. A transform and quantization part(340) quantizes the down-sampled residual block. An encoder(350) encodes the quantized residual block.
