The invention deals with the synthesis of duloxetine and its pharmaceutically acceptable salts via beta-keto amine with a free or protected amine group, followed by asymmetric transfer hydrogenation to the respective alcohol which is then converted into duloxetine and its pharmaceutically acceptable salts.
