The apparatus has an electric motor (7) for driving a rotating toothbrush (12). An accelerometer (4) is located perpendicular to a longitudinal axis (XX') of the brush and delivers an output electrical signal proportional to an angular position of a case (1) of the apparatus. Another accelerometer (5) delivers another output electrical signal proportional to the inclination of the case. The electric signals control a rotating direction of the toothbrush.
