Disclosed is a use of the 1-(2-chloro-5-pyridylmethyl)-2-cyanoiminothiazolidine (thiacloprid) compound of the formula (I) its metal salts or acid addition compounds thereof and a boron compound as an insecticide for protecting industrial materials against attack and/or destruction by insects. Also disclosed are compositions for protecting industrial materials (such as wood or plastic), which comprise a thiacloprid compound of the formula (I) or metal salts or acid addition compounds thereof, a boron compound, a quaternary ammonium compound and at least one solvent or diluent.
