<p>The medicament contains chloramphenicol adamantoate of formula: It is active against a wide variety of gram positive and negative bacteria, viruses and rickettsia. It is used in the treatment of infections, esp. influenza, and may also be used in veterinary medicine. Administration may be oral, rectal, parenteral or topical. Tablets and capsules pref. contain 350 mg., suppositories 300 mg., injections 5%, ointments and creams 2.5%, and eardrops 5% of active ingredient. Chloramphenicol adamtoate is prepared by reacting chloramphenicol with adamantoyl chloride in anhydrous pyridine.</p> |
