PURPOSE: A car navigation system and an update method for an electronic map thereof are provided to update only corresponding area by informing the navigation system of area information. CONSTITUTION: A car navigation system comprises a receiver(110), a control part(120), a storage part(130), and a display part(140). The receiver receives a map data from a center. The storage part stores the received map data and the existing map data. The control part calculates the change rate of the received map data by comparing the received map data with the existing map data. The control part updates the map data partly according to the change rate. The display part displays the partly updated map data.
