PURPOSE: An image forming apparatus and a control method thereof are provided to remove or alleviate an image ghost, thereby improving printing quality. CONSTITUTION: Developer corresponding printing data is attached on a surface of an image carrier(130). A transfer unit(140) receives transfer power and transfers the developer to a transferred body. A power supply unit(160) applies the transfer power to the transfer unit. A controller(170) applies the first or second power to the transfer unit based on the amount of the developer within a unit section of the surface of the image carrier. When the amount of the first developer is larger than the first standard value within the first unit section, the controller applies the second transfer power to the transfer unit while the first unit section passes a transfer area.
