Provided are a sealing plate and a battery that has the sealing plate. The sealing plate is, in order to prevent a rise in production cost, constructed so as to avoid the entire plate being thick and can be reliably positioned and welded without failures. The battery has the sealing plate (20) for sealing an opening of a case for receiving an electrode body unit. On the rear side of the sealing plate is formed a fitting projection (24) entering inside the case opening with the sealing plate installed at a predetermined position of the case opening. The sealing plate is shaped by press working such that at least portions (27A) of those outer peripheral sections (25, 27) of the fitting projection which are in contact with the peripheral edge of the case opening have greater thickness than that inner section (28) of the fitting projection which is not in contact with the peripheral edge of the case opening. |
