Ores, with or without a binder or flux, are compacted for briquetting into a strip between an opposed pair of rollers having pressing surfaces defining continuously extending alternate grooves and ridges. The rollers 1, 2 may respectively be formed with opposed grooves 3 and ridges 4 and end walls 6 may be provided on one of the rollers. Each groove or ridge 3, 4 is defined between pointed, rounded or flat edges. The ridges and grooves may be in opposed staggered alignment, Fig. 2 (not shown), or the face of one roller may be plane, Fig. 3 (not shown). The compacted strip is subdivided into briquettes by a guillotine or by gravity impact, or by crushing. |
