<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotation angle detection apparatus which can prevent a breakdown in an element and a break in a coil even when a ground fault between an excitation coil of a resolver and an excitation signal generation circuit occurs. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The rotation angle detection apparatus 100 includes: the resolver 1 in which the excitation coil L1 and output coils L2, L3 are provided around a rotor 11; the excitation signal generation circuit 24 for providing the excitation coil L1 with an excitation signal obtained by adding offset voltage to a sinusoidal wave signal; and an arithmetic processing unit 21 for detecting the amplitude of the output signals of the output coils L2, L3 at a predetermined cycle and calculating, on the basis of the detected value, the rotation angle of a shaft. When a ground fault occurs between the excitation coil L1 and the excitation signal generation circuit 24, the offset signal is prohibited to be added to the sinusoidal wave signal, and an excitation signal without the offset voltage included is output from the excitation signal generation circuit 24.
