The invention relates to a method for producing a sandwich which has the form of an object obtained using expandable granules. The sandwich is formed with the desired form of an object following expansion of the granular product inside a mould. As the granular product expands inside the mould the walls of the mould limit expansion of the granular product in the direction perpendicular to the surface of the mould wall. The granules also adhere to each other as they expand. An edible agglutinant may be included in order to promote adhesion.
