The subject is detected, it is determined whether the subject detection result satisfies a predetermined condition, the subject for which the image capturing condition should be set is determined before the image capturing instruction is accepted when the subject detection result satisfies the predetermined condition, the image capturing instruction is accepted, the image capturing condition is set based on the determined subject when the subject detection result satisfies the predetermined condition and the image capturing condition is set based on the subject detection result obtained after the image capturing instruction is accepted when the subject detection result does not satisfy the predetermined condition, and actual image capturing is performed under the set image capturing condition.
