The headrest (1) has an adjusting device for adjusting the headrest with respect to a head position of a person i.e. passenger, where the head position is detected by a microwave antenna (10) of a microwave sensor. The microwave antenna is covered using a cushion, which exhibits electrically conductive and/or dielectric influence elements for influencing directivity of the microwave antenna. A passenger compartment is scanned by changing the directivity of the microwave antenna. A passive patch antenna is arranged within the cushion. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a control device for operating a headrest (2) a method for operating a headrest.
