PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correct a bright black phenomenon in a dark area while maintaining brightness of a bright area on a display picture as much as possible.

SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus that outputs an image signal to a display device includes: an input means for inputting the image signal; an acquiring means for acquiring light diffusion information indicating the quantity of diffused light in the display device; a calculating means for calculating a bright black phenomenon correction value for correcting the bright black phenomenon caused on the display picture of the display device on the basis of the input image signal and acquired light diffusion information; and a correction means for correcting the image signal input on the basis of the calculated bright black phenomenon correction value.
