PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a self-traveling elevator capable of securing necessary traction with a comparatively simple structure without requiring increases of special ropes and winding angles of ropes. SOLUTION: In this self-traveling elevator, a driving device 8 provided with a motor 8a and a driving roller 8e driven by the motor 8a to be in sliding contact with a balance weight side guide rail 7 is mounted on a balance weight 2. The elevator is provided with a weight 9 for generating traction mounted on the balance weight 2 to enable a relative motion and a transmission means 10 for making inertia force generated in the weight 9 when the elevator accelerates and decelerates as pressing force in relation to the balance weight side guide rail 7 of the driving roller 8e. The inertia force generated when the elevator accelerates and decelerates is utilized to secure the necessary traction for property driving the elevator. COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
