PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for catalytically cracking waste plastic, wherein the efficiency in decomposition is high, even polyethylene composed of linear chain molecules difficult in decomposition is decomposable at a low temperature, decomposed residue is hardly produced, the process is simple, and a high energy efficiency of 50% or above in terms of net yield of oil is achieved. SOLUTION: The process includes: dropping ground waste plastic particles as the raw material onto a granular powdery FCC catalyst being as a heat carrier previously heated to 350°C-500°C inside a reaction vessel 1; dragging the waste plastic particles into the FCC catalyst by an agitation means; sprinkling the FCC catalyst on the waste plastic; and bringing the waste plastic particles into contact with the FCC catalyst on the surface contacting with the FCC catalyst which is kept at a high temperature, to be decomposed into a gas.
