<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a planting base sufficiently receiving load such as the wheel pressure of vehicles or step pressure by walkers, easily set up and having enough moisture retention, allowing groundcover plants to sufficiently grow, and enabling securement of a broad greening area. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The planting base 2 comprises a mixture soil layer 11 laid on an actual field ground G, and a plate-like member 21 made to be interposed between the mixture soil layer 11 and groundcover plants 3 planted on the mixture soil layer 11. The mixture soil layer 11 has hard granular bodies 12 in contact with one another to form clearances through which the roots of the groundcover plants 3 can be passed, and soil 13 charged in the clearances between respective hard granular bodies 12. The plate-like member 21 is provided with an opening 22 through which the root of the groundcover plants 3 can be passed. Such structure makes the roots of the groundcover plants 3 pass through the opening 22 of the plate-like member 21 and the soil 13 in the mixture soil layer 11 and reach the actual field ground G so as to supply water to the groundcover plants 3 from the actual field ground G.
