1,205,671. Methyl methacrylate/silane copolymer compositions; curing agents for polyurethanes. DOW CORNING CORP. 2 Jan., 1968 [5 Jan., 1967], No. 220/68. Heading C3P. A primer composition for room temperature vulcanizing and curing polyurethanes comprises a solution of (1) a copolymer of methyl methacrylate and a silane of the formula RSiX 3 where R is a CH 2 =CHCOO(CH 2 ) 3 - or a CH 2 =C(CH 3 )COO(CH 2 ) 3 - radical and X is a hydrolysable group and (2) a silane of the formula RSiX 3 (where R and X are as previously defined), the solution having been prepared by a process comprising copolymerizing in an organic solvent the methyl methacrylate with the silane in a mol. ratio of 2-10: 1 and, if desired, adding further free silane after the copolymerization reaction. The group X is the silane may be halogen, alkoxy, acyloxy, alkoxyalkoxy, aryloxy, oxime or amino. A small amount of another (meth)acrylate, e.g. ethyl acrylate, 2- ethylhexyl acrylate or hydroxypropyl methacrylate, can be included in the copolymerization reaction. Copolymerization can be effected using an initiator such as azobisisobutyronitrile and, if desired, a mercaptan chain transfer agent may be present, e.g. mercaptopropyltrimethoxysilane. 2-Ethoxyethyl acetate and xylene are specified as organic solvents. |
