<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a parking assisting device and a parking assisting method capable of adequately recognizing a parking frame line when assisting the parking of a vehicle based on the parking frame line. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The parking assisting device 10 is constituted around a parking assisting ECU 20, and image pickup means 16, 18, a parking switch 38, a display 32 and a reverse shift switch 36 are connected thereto. Further, a steering angle sensor 12 and a vehicle speed sensor 14 are connected thereto via a CAN (Controller Area Network). The parking assisting ECU 20 includes a detection means 22, a storage means 24, and a recognition means 26, and realizes the detection means 22 and the recognition means 26 by storing programs corresponding to various kinds of means 22, 26 in a ROM, and executing the programs by the CPU.
