The invention relates to a novel use for thalidomide, involving the inhibition of osteoclast-activating factors which promote the formation of osteoclasts and cause bone pain and fracture symptoms. The treatment of patients with multiple myeloma using a pharmaceutical thalidomide composition has demonstrated a reduction in the number of fractures and reduced localised pain.
