摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect automatically an eye position from a moving image with ease and high reliability. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The method for detecting an eye position from a moving image includes the steps A: (A1) preparing from a frame of a moving image (original image) a blurred image (horizontal- and vertical-blurred image 24) that is blurred in two intersecting directions; obtaining a position of an intersection of edges in the blurring directions; (A2) preparing a face region detection image that has no gradation of the original image; (A3) and detecting a face region candidate in the face region detection image from a rectangular region that has an edge intersection in the gradation direction as an apex; and B: (B1) preparing a plurality of eye position detection images whose brightness changes for every face region candidate; (B2) detecting a pixel group that gradually appears in the image as the eye position detection image fades in low brightness from a state of fading out with high brightness; (B3) selecting pixel groups that appear in pairs as eye position candidates from the detected pixel group regions; and (B4) identifying the eye position candidates as eye positions based on their appearance frequencies.
