One aspect of the invention provides a method for providing input to a computer. In some embodiments, the method includes the steps of emitting light from a registered light source, reflecting a first pattern of reflected light emitted by the registered light source from at least first and second reflective elements, moving a movable member, coupled to a body, with respect to the body to create a second pattern of reflected light from the at least two reflective elements, and detecting a change from the first pattern to the second pattern to perform at least one of a computer mouse click, a computer mouse scroll, a keyboard input, and a combination thereof.
