PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber plug and a waterproof connector preventing increase in insertion force of a terminal metal fitting. SOLUTION: The waterproof connector includes the terminal metal fitting 30 connected to the end of an electric wire 90, a connector housing 10 to which the terminal metal fitting 30 is inserted from the rear side, rubber plugs 50, 50B inserted in an assembling recess part opened in the rear face of the connector housing 10. The rubber plugs 50 and 50B have electric wire insertion holes 55 and 55B which can be brought into tight contact with the outer circumferential face of the electric wire 90. Each of the rubber plugs 50 and 50B has two long side parts 51 facing mutually in the longitudinal direction and two short side parts 52 facing mutually in the lateral direction, and is press fitted in the assembling recess part 15 while elastically deforming the long side parts 51 and the short side parts 52. The rear end inner circumferential faces of the electric wire insertion holes 55 and 55B are opened as terminal insertion parts 57 into which the terminal metal fitting 30 can be inserted, and in the rubber plugs 50 and 50B before the elastic deformation, at least the terminal insertion parts 57 have cross sections long in the longitudinal direction and short in the lateral direction of the rubber plugs.
