1,192,020. Vinyl fluoride polymer organosol. E. I. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO. 8 Sept., 1967 [9 Sept., 1966; 17 May, 1967], No. 41146/67. Heading C3P. A stable organosol for forming into shaped structures comprising dimethyl sulphoxide, vinyl fluoride homopolymer and/or copolymer and water, the weight ratio of dimethyl sulphoxide to water being in the range 98/2 to 15/85 may be prepared by polymerizing vinyl fluoride monomer with or without comonomer(s) at 55‹ to 140‹ C. and 1000 to 15000 p.s.i. gauge in aqueous dimethyl sulphoxide of which water constitutes up to 85% by weight based on the combined weight of water and dimethyl sulphoxide. Suitable initiators are benzoyl peroxide, α,α<SP>1</SP>- azobis-isobutyronitrile, N 2 F 2 .NF 3 and 2,2<SP>1</SP>-diguanyl<SP> </SP>- 2,2<SP>1</SP>- azopropane dihydro - chloride. In comparative examples dimethyl acetamide, butyrolactone, N-methyl pyrrolidone and dimethyl formamide are used. In examples the comonomers used were vinyl pivalate, 1,1,9- trihydroperfluorononyl acrylate and vinyl butyrate. |
