<p>Polycaprolactone compounds with terminal acrylate groups have the general formulae:- (1) (CH2=C(Z)COO)y-Q-(OOCG)y'; (2) (CH2=C(Z)COO)y-Q-OOC wG'; (3) (CH2=C(Z)COO)y-Q-(OOCNHG)y'; (4) (CH2=C(Z)COO)y-Q-OOCNH) wG'; (5) (CH2=C(Z)COOROOCNH-G'-NHCOO)x-Q or where X is H or CH3, Q is the residue remaining after conversion of the caprolactone-polyol, G is a monovalent (cyclo)alkyl, aryl, alkenyl, aralkyl or alkaryl residue remaining after the conversion of the (substd.) monocarboxylic acid or monoisocyanate, G' is a valency bond or a 1-10C (branched) alkylene, 6-12C arylene, alkarylene or aralkylene, 5-10C cycloalkylene, or 7-15C bicycloalkylene residue, remaining after the conversion of the (substd.) polycarboxylic acid or polyisocyanate, R is 2-5C (branched) alkylene residue, X is a 1-3C alkyl or phenyl residue, x = 1-4, y = 1-3, y' = 1-3, y + y' = 2-4, w = 2-4 and is the valency of G', n = 1-10 and z = 0 or 1. The compounds are used as coating compositions, in admixture with an activator and possibly with an acrylyl compound. Such compositions harden rapidly on exposure to (non)ionising radiation.</p> |
