PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low-cost power converter which reduces a loss in a converter circuit. SOLUTION: The power converter is provided with an alternating-current reactor 2, a converter circuit 3, a smoothing capacitor 4 and an inverter circuit 5 to drive a motor 6. The power converter uses a MOSFET as a switching element constituting the converter circuit 3, and performs synchronous rectification control to turn on the MOSFET for a period during which each switching element are made conductive as a rectifying element. When the temperature of the MOSFET is lower than a set temperature, synchronous rectification control over the MOSFET is performed for a period during which the MOSFET is made conductive as the rectifying element, and when the temperature of the MOSFET is higher than the set temperature, synchronous rectification control over the MOSFET is stopped.
