PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To identify a specified person who should be given priority, with a high probability and to automatically focus the person even when identification of the specified person only by features of the face is difficult. SOLUTION: A face region detecting unit 56 extracts a face region of a person from the image data of the subject acquired by a photographing unit 53, while a face peripheral region detecting unit 57 extracts a region other than the face. A specified person information recording unit 58 preliminarily has a record of characteristics information about the face (face information) of the specified person and characteristics information (additional information) about colors and features of clothes or the like other than the face. When a first object identifying unit 59 fails in identification of the specified person by the face information, a second object identifying unit 60 uses the additional information and determines whether or not the registered characteristics information about the specified person are included in the subject; and when the second identifying unit determines that the information is included in the subject, the unit determines the face region of the person as a focusing object.
