PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical film having infrared absorbency, excellent adhesion, high flatness, surface smoothness, less curl and good surface quality, in the optical film used in the front filter of a plasma display panel or the like. SOLUTION: A method for producing the optical film includes stretching a resin film containing a compound represented by general formula (1) as an infrared absorbing dye, wherein X represents S or O; R1and R2represent H or a monovalent arbitrary group; and m and n represent 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4.
