<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accelerate an A/D conversion process employing successive approximation while suppressing the increase of power consumption and a circuit area. Ž<P>SOLUTION: Three capacitors C1-C3 are connected to a comparator 12, and the A/D converter also includes three switching circuits SL1-SL3 that respectively input first, second and third reference voltages in the three capacitors C1-C3. A control circuit 11 selects at least two of the three switching circuits SL1-SL3 during a charging period of stray capacitance of each of the capacitors C1-C3, turns on one of the switching devices in the selected switching circuits simultaneously, and during a comparing period by the comparator 12, selects one of the three capacitors C1-C3 for each comparison, and selects another one of the capacitors C1-C3 in the next comparison.
