<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shock absorber having improved vibration absorbing effect, and a metal cover having improved sound insulation performance. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The shock absorber 21 includes a shock absorbing member 40 in a generally annular shape having an insertion hole in which a bolt 7 to be installed to an installation boss 10 is inserted and surrounding the bolt 7, a grommet 41 provided with a first holding section 43 holding a heat insulator 3, a second holding section 44 holding the shock absorbing member 40 and a connecting section 45 connecting the first holding section 43 and the second holding section 44 to each other, with the second holding section 44, the connecting section 45 and the first holding section 43 provided in this order from the side of the installation boss 10, and a collar member 22 provided with a connecting section 27 connecting a pair of flange sections 28, 31 to each other which embrace the shock absorbing member 40 from both sides in the axial direction through a gap and having a radial gap to the shock absorbing member 40.
