<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video image signal processor and a video image signal processing method, by which the reproducibility of an original video image is not reduced even if noise mixes in a pedestal level calculation period for a video image signal. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The video image signal processor corrects a pedestal level of an analog video image signal. The processor includes a pedestal level extraction portion 91, a noise reduction processing portion 92, and an averaging processing portion 93. The pedestal level extraction portion 91 extracts a pedestal level from each scanning line. The noise reduction processing portion 92 reduces a noise level superimposed on the pedestal level of each scanning line extracted by the pedestal level extraction portion 91. The averaging processing portion 93 outputs a value applied with weight equalization processing for the pedestal level applied with noise reduction processing by the noise reduction processing portion 92, as a criterion pedestal level of each scanning line.
