PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video display system in which the control of a reproducing device suited to the video viewing of a user is performed without forcibly turning the power of the reproducing device on/off according to the changeover of video images displayed at a display, and to provide the display and the reproducing device. SOLUTION: When the switching operation of the input source of the video images is performed in the display while displaying the video images reproduced by the reproducing device, the display transmits a switching notice to the reproducing device and starts timing. The reproducing device which receives the switching notice stops reproduction and transmits a stop notice to the display, and the display which receives the stop notice switches the input source. After the lapse of the prescribed time, the display displays a message inquiring reproduction restart by the reproducing device, and the reproduction restart of the reproducing device and the input switching of the display are performed according to user' selection.
