<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a monitoring device for an escalator allowing the installation of a camera for photographing the get-on manner situation of escalator passengers without being influenced by a building structure or an escalator structure. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The monitoring device for the escalator is provided at an escalator arrangement structure comprising protective devices 8 arranged at narrow angle parts between moving handrails 2 of escalators 1, 1a-1c arranged inclining and the building ceiling or at narrow angle parts between bottom parts 6, 6a-6c of the escalators 1, 1a-1c adjacent intersecting each other and the moving handrails 2, and having cylindrical bodies in the front side positions to prevent the passengers from being caught. The monitoring device includes cylindrical bodies 9, 901-905 of predetermined length hanging in front of the protective devices 8, and cameras 10, 21 stored inside the cylindrical bodies 9, 901-905 through mounting holes 11A provided in the bottom faces of mounting tools 11.
