PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display medium using colored particles sufficiently providing stable charge performance, particle physical properties such as hydrophobicity and surface energy and particle strength, having high contrast, satisfactory image quality, high particle strength and high durability and free from crack and breakage, and to provide an image forming method using the same. SOLUTION: In the image display medium formed by providing a gap between a display side substrate and a rear side substrate and interposing and encapsulating the colored particles for image formation of a plurality of colors in the gap and performing image display by applying an electric field to between the display side substrate and the rear side substrate, each of encapsulated colored particles has an outer wall formed by using porous silica and a colorant is encapsulated in the interior of the outer wall.
