<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air conditioner that can automatically make an installation position setting for an indoor unit in the absence of an operator's or user's installation position setting for the indoor unit at installation. <P>SOLUTION: The air conditioner includes a substantially boxlike body having an inlet for drawing room air and an outlet for delivering conditioned air, an infrared sensor mounted on a front surface of the body at a predetermined angle of depression to scan a temperature detection target area transversely and detect temperatures of temperature detection targets, and a control part for controlling the air conditioner in response to detecting humans or heating apparatus through the infrared sensor. At least upon an operation start, the control part makes a scan with the infrared sensor to obtain thermal image data on a room, determines the installation position of the body in the room according to the thermal image data, and sets the direction of wind delivered from the outlet according to the installation position. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT</p> |
