<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve refrigerant distribution to each tube in an evaporator. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The evaporator is provided with the plurality of tubes 10 arranged to extend vertically and with header tanks 40 arranged on both end sides of the plurality of tubes 10. The header tank 40 is provided with a plate member 60 to which the plurality of tubes 10 are connected, a tank member 50 combined with the plate member 60, and an intermediate layer material 70 interposed between the tank member 50 and the plate member 60. Flowing parts 51 for making a refrigerant flow in the longitudinal direction of the header tank 40 are formed inside the tank member 50, and projecting parts 72 projecting toward the flowing part 51 side are provided in the intermediate layer material 70. The projecting part 72 is set so that a flow passage cross sectional area of the flowing part 51 corresponding to a portion in the plurality of tubes 10 where the refrigerant is difficult to flow is larger than that of the flowing part 51 corresponding to a portion in the plurality of tubes 10 where the refrigerant is made to flow easily.
